Philip Baker Hall dies aged 90, a famous stage and film actor who starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s early films and who searched for an overdue book in the library in Seinfeld passed away.

The lead actor – who is credited with more than 180 screen roles – Philip Baker Hall dies on Sunday.

Hall’s death was announced by “neighbor” and “friend” Sam Farmer, a Los Angeles Times journalist who announced the sad news on Twitter.

“My neighbor, friend, and one of the smartest, most talented, and kindest people I have ever met, Philip Baker Hall, passed away peacefully last night. He is surrounded by loved ones. The world has a void in it,” Farmer wrote.

Cause Philip Baker Hall dies not announced. However, the Ohio native had emphysema. The Washington Post reported in 2017 that he was on a respirator and had smoked his entire life until he quit.

Hall is a frequent collaborator with director Paul Thomas Anderson, starring in the 1997 films “Boogie Nights” and 1999’s “Magnolia”.

Among Hall’s many roles, he appeared in film and television projects including “Say Anything”, “Constrain Your Passions”, “The West Wing”, “Rush Hour”, “Family”, Ties,” “Modern Family,” “Falcon Crest,” “M*A*S*H,” “Secret Honor,” “LA Law,” “Cagney & Lacey,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “The Practice.”

He was born in Toledo, Ohio, initially dedicating more to theater in Los Angeles, after moving out in 1975, than TV and film. While filming small parts in Hollywood, Hall worked with the LA Actors Theatre. There he played Richard Nixon in the one-act play Secret Honor, a role he reprized in Robert Altman’s 1984 film adaptation.
