It’s Hard To Get A Sequel To Judge Dredd Movie

The “Judge Dredd movie” was released nearly 10 years ago, and some fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since, frequently questioning star Karl Urban about his involvement. But as much as those fans might want to see the group get back together, a “Dredd” sequel seems extremely unlikely at this point. Judge Dredd Movie In 2012

Set in the future in a big city, “Dredd” follows a pair of Judges who act as judges, jurors, and executioners in the ongoing war against crime. The drug lord holds the tower in her iron grip, locking the Judges in the building as they arrive, forcing them to fight their way through her goons if they want to reach her at the top.

The plot of the film is quite closed. Technically, it leaves room for more story in that world, but it’s also a pretty obvious end to the story in the event nothing else happens to the property.

Will There Be A Sequel To The Judge Dredd Movie?

In 2019, writer Alex Garland was asked if he wanted to return to make a sequel to “Dredd”. His answer:

“No. There are so many reasons I don’t want to go back. I love Dredd, I love the character, but I don’t want to go back in any hurry to do it again.”
One of the reasons why Garland might have had a negative experience is because of director Pete Travis because of his creative arguments with the producer about directing the movie. While Travis and Garland attempted to put a twist on that development at the time, Urban confirmed that Garland’s involvement with the film went much deeper than the public knew:

“A large part of the success of ‘Dredd’ is actually due to Alex Garland and what many people don’t realize is that Alex Garland actually directed that movie.”
Garland did not receive directing credit for the film. This is Hollywood, however, where intellectual property rights and name recognition reign supreme. The “Judge Dredd” brand is worth far more than anyone. So will fans ever see Judge Dredd movie again?

At the beginning of 2020, Karl Urban really wants to make a sequel to the judge dredd movie. A test scenario is said to have been completed a few years ago. Urban said he is in discussions about reprising his role for that series. But there haven’t been any major updates since then, and the TV project is still in its infancy. It’s not just us, but movie fans all want a sequel.
